One book. One question: Do you believe?
John doesn't write like a biographer listing out highlights. He writes like a witness testifying to a truth he staked his life on. Stories given. Words spoken. Every page is full of carefully chosen evidence building towards a choice; a choice everyone must make.
John tells us why he wrote everything down:
"Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
John 20:30–31 · ESV
That's the purpose of the entire book of John in two verses. This is not meant to be a collection of stories about a good man, but a testimony proclaiming Jesus is the Son of God. And life is something only He can give.
Over the next eight months, chapter by chapter, we'll walk through the signs, the 'I am' statements, conversations at wells, on the water, and around tables; all the way to the cross and the empty tomb. And we'll let John's testimony do what he always intended: draw us to believe in Christ, and in believing, to live.
